This was a joint forces operation involving members of the RCMP and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary. As a result of confidential information received by the police and ongoing surveillance our client was apprehended operating a truck which was pulling a travel trailer. An initial warrantless search conducted by the police at roadside yielded no indiciation of the presence of contraband but a more detailed search (i.e.: they ripped the roof out of the trailer) by way of a warrant to search revealed a large quantity of B.C. “bud”. In fact . . . according to the police the seizure of cannabis marijuana represented a street value of in excess of a “million dollars”. While our client was committed to stand trial at the conclusion of a preliminary inquiry this prosecution was terminated/killed in its entirety on the verge of trial proceedings by way of the entry of a stay of proceedings . As a consequence of this most favorable outcome the truck, trailer and cash (approximately $10,000.00) was promptly returned to our client.
